Hey !

Last week was the AIA (American International Association) Rep’N week. Because I had a lot of homework, papers and an exam I just went to one of the events.
There was an International Cocktail on Wednesday at the new student pub, Founders. There was a band that was playing on stage, while slideshows from every country were unfolding on the screen behind them. Most of the slideshows showed pictures of the country like the main cities, the typical clothes, or food. Others also had explanations, or descriptions of historical facts. It was interesting to see the pictures of the landscapes that are really different from what I am used to in France, or even here in America. A few girls were dressed with dresses from their countries. It was very beautiful, and some were very colorful, I loved that. Other girls also sang in their maternal languages, and that was funny !

This weekend I went to a friend’s house. She invited me to her Stampin’Up party (we don’t do that in France). Scrapbooking is not very popular in France. I started scrap booking about 6 or 7 years ago, and I love that, but I don’t really have time, especially here. So it was really nice to do that for an afternoon. We made two different Christmas cards. We don’t really do that either in France! We don’t write Christmas cards. At least not as much as you do here. It was really interesting and inspiring. I love the Christmas spirit !

This week is the AIA semi formal. I haven’t decided yet if I’m going or not ! I guess you’ll find out in my next blog !

Ce weekend je suis allée chez une amie. Elle m’a invité à se “Stampin’Up party”. On fait pas ça en France. Le scrapbooking est pas trop connu en France, mais le “stampin’up ne l’ai pas du tout”. Ou peut être qu’on de fais pas de différence entre les deux. J’ai commencé le scrapbooking il y a environ 6 ou 7 ans, et j’adore ça, mais j’ai pas beaucoup le temps, particulièrement ici. Donc c’était vraiment sympa de faire ça pendant une après midi. On a fait deux différentes cartes de Noel. On ne fait vraiment ça non plus en France ! On n’écrit pas de cartes de Noel. Ou pas autant que vous le faites ici. C’était vraiment intéressant et inspirant. J’adore l’esprit de Noel !

Cette  c’est le semi formal des AIA, j’ai pas encore pris ma décision d’y aller ou non encore. Donc j’imagine que vous le découvrirez dans mon prochain post !

So you want to hear about the Halloween experience of a French girl in the United States ?!!

Yes, in France Halloween is another story… It is not as popular as it is here! Of course we have more and more candies in the stores, and you can probably find some costumes. I would say that in France it is more for kids and trick or treat, but there is nothing much for us older kids ! So everything was new for me !
It started on Friday afternoon when I went to buy my first costume ! Since in France the Halloween theme is only death, and witches, and vampires, I decided that here it would be just the opposite for me !

On Friday night I went with other international students to the “Haunted house” on campus. It was amazing ! And scary ! At least for me ! It was better than the attractions in theme parks I did in France ! It was dark but with a flashing light, which was worse because you could see if there was someone but not judge their distance, or see if they were moving. All the “actors”/students were dressed up, and screaming and grabbing your ankles ! It was fun !

Then on Saturday night, I went to the AIA’s Halloween Party dressed up as a penguin !! It wasn’t easy to walk,  and I barely tried to dance ! But it was really funny ! Some of the other costumes were really good as well ! I liked the dead bride, Caesar, the mimes, the gipsy, or hippie girls … On the way back to Polis after the party we met all kinds of super heroes, hot dogs, or old people !! I will be sad next year when I’ll just see 6 years old witches and ghosts.

Alors vous voulez entendre la première expérience d’Halloween d’une Francaise aux USA ?!!

Oui en France Halloween est une autre histoire, ce n’est pas aussi connu qu’ici ! Bien sur il y a de plus en plus de bonbons dans les magasins, et vous pouvez probablement trouver quelques déguisements. Je dirai qu’en France c’est plus pour les enfants qui vont chercher des bonbons, mais pas grand chose pour nous ! Donc tout était nouveau pour moi !

Ca a commencé vendredi après midi quand je suis allée acheter mon premier déguisement ! Puisque en France le thème d’Halloween c’est uniquement la mort, et sorcières et vampires, j’ai décidé qu’ici ca serait tout le contraire pour moi !

Vendredi soir je suis allée avec d’autres étudiants internationaux à la “Maison hantée” à coté de Polis. C’est génial ! Et flippant ! En tout cas pour moi ! C’etait mieux que dans certaines attractions que j’ai fait en France ! Il faisait noir mais avec des flashs de lumière, ce qui était pire parce que vous pouviez voir si il y avait quelqu’un mais pas évaluer la distance, ou voir si ils bougeaient. Tous les acteurs / étudiants étaient déguisés, et criaient et attrapaient vos chevilles ! C’était marrant !

Ensuite samedi soir, je suis allée à la fete d’Halloween des AIA déguisée en pingouin !! C’était pas facile de marcher et j’ai à peine essayé de danser ! Mais c’était vraiment rigolo ! Quelques autres costumes étaient aussi très bien ! J’ai aimé la mariée décédée, César, les mimes, la gitane et l’hippie … Sur le chemin du retour pour Polis on a rencontré toutes sortes de super héros, hot dogs ou personnes agées !! Je serai triste l’année prochaine quand je verrai juste des sorcières et fantomes de 6 ans …

J’espère que vous avez aussi passez un bon week end d’Halloween, moi je n’oublierai jamais le mien !

I had a busy week and didn’t have the time to tell about you my “Crossroad” experience last Saturday.

Crossroads is during the homecoming weekend. AIA organized a picnic with food from all over the world, and we cooked! Most of the nations represented in the association cooked a dish from their countries. We had decided with Diko, from Senegal, to make crepes, which is a specialty from France.

So everything started on Friday night ! We made the batter 5:00 to 6:30 pm ! We had bought everything the day before, and it was so weird for me to make crepes for so many people ! We made two different batters, I was responsible of the regular one, and Diko the banana one ! We didn’t have a container big enough so I had to use two ! It was a lot !

The next morning I woke up at 5:45am to make the crepes all morning !! It was fun though ! We had two frying pans each, and we were only able to fry four crepes at the same time. We made about 200 crepes!

Then we went in the Student Center to serve our crepes, with Nutella, jelly, cinnamon, and also with sugar and lemon juice just like in France ! I hope people liked them ! As I was serving I didn’t really get the chance to try the other dishes, I don’t even know what they cooked. There were a lot of cookies from Sweden, the Netherlands, and Denmark. But I guess you can find pictures on the Wittenberg website.
It was a really tiring experience, we didn’t sit from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm, but it was really cool and  really enjoyed it !

Désolée j’ai eu une semaine chargée, et je n’ai pas eu le temps de vous raconter mon expérience “Crossroads” samedi dernier. Donc pendant le weekend du “homecoming” l’AIA a organisé comme une table de pique nique avec de la nourriture de partout dans le monde. La plupart des nations represented dans l’association a cuisiné un plat de son pays. Nous avions décidé avec Diko, du Sénégal, de faire des crèpes, qui sont une spécialité francaise.
Donc tout à commencé vended soir ! On a fait la pate de 17h à 18h30. On avait tout acheté la veille, et c’était très bizarre pour moi de faire des crèpes pour autant de personnes. On a fait deux pates différentes, j’étais responsable de la normale, et Diko de celle à la banane. On avait pas de récipients assez grands donc j’ai du en utiliser deux ! Ca faisait beaucoup !!
Et le matin suivant, je me suis levée à 5h45 pour faire les crèpes pendant toute la matinée !! C’était marrant en tout cas !! On avait deux poeles chacune, et on pouvait seulement faire cuire quatre crèpes en meme temps. Et on a fait environ 200 crèpes!
Ensuite on est allé au “Student Center” pour servir nos crepes, avec du Nutella, de la confiture, de la canelle, et aussi avec du sucre et du jus de citron comme en France ! J’espère que les gens ont aimé. Comme je servais je n’ai pas raiment eu la chance de gouter les autres plats, je ne sais meme pas ce qu’ils avaient cuisiné. Il y avait beaucoup de cookies de Suède, Hollande, et Danemarque. Mais j’imagine que vous pouvez trouver des photos sur le  site de Wittenberg.
C’était une expérience très fatiguante, on ne s’est pas assis de 7h à 14h, mais c’était vraiment sympa ! J’ai vraiment aimé !

Hey !

I forgot to mention in my introduction where I live on campus. Well, I am in Polis House just like most of the international students ! I love living here, it’s really not like a dorm, and we all get along pretty well. The house is really small compare to all the other dorms, we are probably about 30 students, and we kind of know each other. It is more like a really big family ! It is nice having all this nationalities within the same house. Almost all the continents are represented: South and North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. It’s awesome ! It is really interesting to see all the different costumes, traditions or habits that we all have from our respective countries. For example some of us are not used to wearing a coat !! Or to have dinner as early as 5 pm ! And I learn new things every day !
On Monday 12th Polis hosted a “Mocktail Party” for people interested in studying abroad. JoAnn Bennett, the study abroad coordinator, presented the different programs available and different destinations. It was funny to be on this side of the process, because last year in France I was also in those kinds of meetings, but I was the one learning how to go abroad! And here I am !
I guess the advertisement was not very good because there was not a lot of people, but if you missed it, and want to know about any of the different countries you can always come to see us, Polis’ door is always open !

J’ai oublié de mentionner dans ma présentation où je vis sur le campus. Je suis à Polis House, juste comme la plupart des étudiants internationaux ! J’adore vivre ici, c’est vraiment different d’un dortoir, on s’entend tous plutot bien. La maison est vraiment petite comparé à toutes les autres résidences, on est environ 30 étudiants, et on se connait tous plus ou moins. C’est plus comme une très grande famille ! C’est sympa d’avoir toutes ces nationalités au sein de la même maison. Presque tous les continents sont représentés: Amérique du sud et du nord, Europe, Asie, et Afrique. C’est génial ! C’est vraiment interessant de voir toutes les différentes coutumes, traditions ou habitudes qu’on a tous de nos pays respectifs. Par exemple quelques uns d’entre nous n’ont pas l’habitude de porter un manteau ! Ou de diner si tôt à 17h ! Et j’apprends de nouvelles choses tous les jours !
Lundi 12 Polis organisait une “Mocktail Party” pour les personnes intéressées par des études à l’étranger. JoAnn Bennett, la coordinatrice des relations internationales, a présenté les differents programmes possible, et les différentes destinations. C’était marrant d’etre de l’autre coté de la démarche, parce que l’année derniere en France, j’étais aussi dans ce genre de réunions, mais j’étais celle qui venait pour savoir comment partir. Et me voilà !
J’imagine que la pub n’était pas très bonne parce qu’il n’y avait pas beaucoup de monde, mais si vous l’avez loupé et que vous voulez savoir quoi que ce soit sur les differents pays, vous pouvez toujours venir nous voir, la porte de Polis est toujours ouverte !

Hi Everyone !

For my first post I’m going to introduce myself to let you know who I am, what I like, why I am here.
So my name is Justine Prunières, I am from Montpellier, in the south of France. I am a psychology student both here and in Université Paul Valéry Montpellier III my university back home. In France it is my third year, so here I’m kind of a junior, and all my classes are in psychology except for one English class.
I am an exchange student with ISEP, and I chose Wittenberg University because I have a friend from Ohio, and it was one of the only universities available with this program in Ohio. I didn’t know a lot about the school before coming here, but I am so glad I have been accepted, because I love this university. The campus is so beautiful and so different from my French university. I really, really enjoy my student American life so far!!
I really love my town, Montpellier, and it is not Paris! But it is exactly what I like about it ! I think in the south of France people are more welcoming, and the weather is so nice ! I also lived in St Etienne (center of France) for 2 years, and even if it is a nice town, it is pretty boring ! Montpellier is a beautiful city, and has a really good student life !
I love drawing, reading, singing and listen to music. I am not the sporty type, but I enjoy watch games, or just playing for fun with friends. I am pretty shy but I like meeting new people. I joined the American International Association, because I think it is interesting to learn about other cultures and share mine, and I think we are going to have fun !
Well, I think that’s pretty much me !

Pour mon premier post je vais me présenter juste pour que vous sachiez qui je suis, ce que j’aime, pour quoi je suis là …
Donc je m’appelle Justine Prunières, je suis de Montpellier, dans le sud de la France. Je suis étudiante en psychologie ici et à Paul Valéry Montpellier III, mon université française. En France je suis en troisième année, donc ici je suis en quelque sortes une “junior”, et tous mes cours sont en psychologie à l’exception d’un cours d’anglais.
Je suis une étudiante en échange avec ISEP, et j’ai choisit l’université de Wittenberg parce que j’ai une amie qui vient de l’Ohio, et c’était une des seules universités de l’Ohio disponible avec ce programme. Je savais pas grand chose au sujet de l’école avant de venir ici, mais je suis très contente d’avoir été acceptée, j’adore cette université. Le campus est tellement joli, et tellement different de mon université française. J’apprécie vraiment beaucoup ma vie d’étudiante américaine pour jusqu’à maintenant !
J’aime vraiment ma ville, Montpellier, et ce n’est pas Paris! Mais c’est justement ce que j’aime. Je pense que dans le sud de la France les gens sont plus accueillants, et le temps est très agréable. J’ai aussi vécu à St Etienne (centre de la France) pendant 2 ans, et même si c’est une ville sympa, c’est assez ennuyeux ! Montpellier est une très jolie ville, et très étudiante aussi.
J’adore dessiner, lire, chanter et écouter de la musique. Je ne suis pas très sportive, mais j’aime bien regarder des matchs ou juste jouer avec des amis. Je suis assez timide, mais j’adore rencontrer de nouvelles personnes. Je suis membre de l’American International Association, je pense que c’est intéressant d’apprendre au sujet d’autres cultures et partager la mienne, et je pense qu’on va bien s’amuser !
Voilà c’est à peu près moi !
