Wittfest/finals

So looking at my last post, I see I mentioned Wittfest. It’s basically a concert that comes around at the end of the year, which includes bands from Post It! (a Witt talent show production) and a special feature band. This year that special band was Cartel. I don’t and still don’t know too much about their music, but people who do know them say they’re great. Anyway, Wittfest usually has food, games, and concerts going on by Recitation Hall, the admission building. My friends and I stopped by a couple of times throughout the day to just relax from school and enjoy ourselves. There were sooo many people that came to see Cartel at night. People got a little rowdy at certain points, but it was a lot of fun. Besides that, things are winding down this year as finals approach. I had my finals a little earlier than other students, so I’m a little bored right now. The one thing I’m looking forward to (besides going home - after all, I live in Connecticut), is the formal our cross country team is having. It’s the first time it’s happening, but it’s not as dressy as the other Greek ones have been that I mentioned earlier. In fact, a lot of our team went to Goodwill to get our outfits for tomorrow evening’s event, so it’ll be pretty funny to see what everyone ends up wearing. More on that later…

Formals!

Hey everyone! So this week a lot of the fraternities and sororities are having their formals. I love this time of year because it reminds me of prom from high school (minus the limo and the prom king and queen thing). Anyway, this year I didn’t really go to any Greek formals, but my friend Megan invited me to the American International Association formal. A lot of international students and their friends attended (obviously). Even if you don’t get invited to a formal, there are ones like the AIA one you can sign up for or your friend may invite you. No one has to miss out. I’m not gonna lie…I didn’t know a whole lot of people at the beginning of the evening, but I met some really cool people I had never hung out with before. There was a nice dinner at a country club in Springfield followed by dancing from about 9:30 to 12:00. It was good music in general, and all I can remember most is laughing at Megan’s dance moves. If you ever come here and meet her, you’ll understand. She’s one of those people who’s always in a good mood and it shows. :) Anyway, it was a fun night. I wish it could have been on a Saturday instead of Sunday because it probably could have lasted a little longer but that’s a minor detail. Other than that, there’s just a lot of stuff coming up with finals and work involved with them. Wittfest, our annual Wittenberg concert, will be around that time too - lots of games during the day and concerts at night. (Wittenberg brings in a special band every year too - one year it was Vanessa Carlton. I love her down-to-earth music). I don’t know too much more about it myself, but that’s what makes it more exciting I guess. I’ll let you know more as time goes by and it’s getting close… :)

Post break

So once again, I have a lot to catch up on. Spring break was kind of boring because our break is a little sooner than some other schools. It was very relaxing though - it was good to see the family and hang out with the few friends that actually were home. Since I’ve been back, things have been a little less hectic. For the last couple of weeks, schoolwork has been light. And of course, this was the best for St. Patty’s Day. My neighbor, Mary, some of our friends, and I went out that night and had a great time. For the beginning of the night, we just hung out and talked in her room. May sound a little boring, but some of the topics just kept us laughing for the longest time. Later that night, as expected, all of us went out and had a good time. Let’s just say St. Patrick’s Day isn’t one of the most celebrated days on campus for nothing. A lot of us went out again that Saturday night to McMurray’s, and had a lot of fun too. It just felt great to be able to blow off a lot of steam and just chill after so many exams before break and a kind of uneventful break for myself. Otherwise, school and the like is pretty predictable. Tomorrow I’m meeting with my advisor to discuss my schedule. There are a lot of classes I want to take, but I need to get my math placement score up first. My advice to any freshman who has a low math placement or writing placement score is to get it raised as quickly as possible. It can affect what classes you get into for any general education requirements you need to fulfill or just any interesting classes.

Spring break!!

It’s finally spring break! I’m leaving tomorrow at 12:00 to go to the airport with one of my friends. Things have been kind of hectic until now. The week before break is usually when midterms are, and I’ve had one in almost every class. It’s done now, so that’s all I’m gonna say. Now I’ve just been packing, getting my airline ticket, etc. I think my roomate and I are going to watch a movie tonight but I have no idea what. Basically it’s just a chill night, which is good because I’m a little sleep deprived. I swear the first couple of nights back home I’m gonna sleep for like 10 hours.

Beginning of February

Well, once again I realize I haven’t been the best about writing on this post. The work has kind of been building up the last couple of weeks, so my focus has been there. Anyway, looking at my last post, I see I mentioned sorority recruitment. I didn’t end up joining a sorority, but I think I may go through informal recruitment next semester. What’s the difference? Formal recruitment, which is what I went through, lasts a week and is usually for freshman. Informal recruitment is over three days, has a little less rules and regulation (thus why it’s informal). Besides that, second semester has been running really smoothly. I have a lot of classes I have to study harder for this semester, and sometimes some of these classes build work up for a week. That’s college though: some weeks you’re working hard, some are easier. Luckily, this week is one of those relaxing weeks after you’ve worked your butt off the week before. :)

Winter break is over

So I realize I haven’t been the best about writing this blog. Sorry. Before break, I was so focused on finals I really just forgot about it. Everything went well, but I had so many papers to do for my classes that it took up a lot of my time. Even so, I did well in all of my classess and I’m looking forward to the beginning of second semester tomorrow.
Break itself was awesome. I hung out with all of my friends and spent New Years Eve with my family in Maryland. For once I would like to have a nontraditional family celebration (guess I’m a dork like that), but now that I’m in college I don’t really want to hurt their feelings. Anyways, it’s back to work tomorrow and all the stress that comes with it. Rushing for a sorority will begin next week, and that’s going to be a big thing in itself. It’s a week long of events (known as formal rush or recruitment), and this can help me decide if I want to join a sorority in the first place. There’ll be more information on all of that later when all the craziness begins :)

finals…

So I realize it has been a while since I’ve written but I’ve been busy with a lot of finals. At least classes are over for the week, so once they’re done I’ve got nothing to do. Actually, I have nothing to do now. I finished my last final today, so I’m just hanging around until Friday when I leave. I think I’m gonna be boring and just watch a few movies with friends because after working so much I would like nothing more than to just sit around and be lazy lol. The only other thing I’ve really got going on the last couple of days is a date Thursday night. I’m not going to go into too much detail about it because we’ve only hung out once, but I met him at a party and he seems like a cool guy. We’ll see what happens. Otherwise, I’m basically peacing out of here, and I can’t wait to be home. Happy Holidays everyone!

Thanksgiving break!

I’m finally back from Thanksgiving break! It was really really nice to be home for the first time in three months. Bascially, I spent most of Wednesday traveling home, which I don’t recommend. Mostly everyone leaves on Monday or Tuesday, so I was one of two people on my floor! It wasn’t that bad when I ordered Domino’s and watched tv (I mean, who can go wrong with Domino’s anyways?).  On Thanksgiving morning, I went to the Turkey Bowl in my hometown, which is basically a football game against our rivals (New Canaan). We lost by one point but it was a really good game and I ran into a lot of my old classmates. Obviously, I spent Thanksgiving at home and the rest was just nights hanging out with my friends: Starbucks, seeing the movie Enchanted, and playing guitar hero. Nothing big but I didn’t care. I’m kind of sad to be back right now because three days at home after three months of being away is definitley not enough time, but one of the good things about our schedule is I’ll be home in another two weeks. I just have to tackle finals head on and get them over with. Knowing my procrastination skills, this could possibly be a little difficult…

Regionals/the end of the season

Sorry I haven’t written in a while, but it has been a busy week. Last Saturday, our team went up to Michigan for our regionals meet. The hotel was…well…interesting. lol. I don’t know how else to put it in a nicer way. We all just hung out and talked late into the night before the next morning. I’m proud to say I got third for our team and beat a senior teamate that usually is in front of me. It makes me kind of feel bad because it was her last meet and I beat her, but it’s all the better for me I guess. Later on that night, I went out and celebrated the end of the season with my team for a bit. Being the dork I am, I left early to go study for a sociology exam that I had on Monday.  Otherwise, this week has been kind of stressful. I studied all day Monday for this exam, had a paper due Tuesday, and have two more papers due this coming Monday. It’s just that part of the year when teachers push a lot of work on you before breaks and you just have to deal with it. This week won’t totally suck though. I’m having a last dinner with the team tomorrow at this Chinese place and lunch with some friends I made at the Emerging Leaders Program. A word about that…any freshman that’s interested in leadership positions at Witt should look into it. The lectures aren’t as lame as you would think, and you actually meet a lot of people (such as the people I’m having lunch with tomorrow). Anyway, there’s really nothing else to say for now. So until next time…

Halloween!!

I left with my team Friday for our conference meet at Kenyon College. It sucks that I had to miss some classes again, but it doesn’t happen that often anyways. We all just hung out for most of the night playing “never have I ever,” sharing stories, etc. It probably sounds like a boring way to spend a Friday night but what can you do when you have a meet the next morning? Overall, we did pretty well. We’re not one of the top five teams, but according to coach he’s happy with our progress. Keyword is happy. The last thing anyone wants to face is a dissapointed coach. So what happened Saturday? There were a lot of Halloween theme parties. I’ve been meaning to get a costume for a while, and I was going to get one that day. Of course, I overslept (it’s amazing how tired races can make you) but still put together an impressive outfit.
