A New Year, A New Man

It’s a new year and now I have to start all over. The grades, the classes, and even better the work. I can not begin to explain how much work there is here for me. I am currently also running indoor track at Wittenberg which is exciting and stressful at the same time. As the semester begins I am excited and ready for new things.

I’m Back

Hello World! It has been a while since my last post. Wow, football was still the main activity going on. Since the season ended, a lot has happened…of course there were tests, quizzes, and plenty of readings for class. After the season, it seems time has slowed down and my levels of focus on schoolwork is decreasing just as fast. One of the main reasons I decided to play football at a D-III college was because I believe I am more focused when my schedule is determined for me by practices, meetings, and times to lift. Now that the season is over, there seems to be TOO much time on my hands, but that just means I have to try and focus more.  Seeing my family during Thanksgiving break was fun and getting a good homecooked meal was also great. The only bad thing about coming back to Witt is the fact that finals are coming and we are only here for two and a half weeks.

A Season’s End

First off, I would like to begin by congratulating all of the senior football players on a great season; it was great playing with you guys and thanks for the leadership. It has been a long season - unlike many other students, I have been on the Wittenberg campus since the beginning of August. Practicing every day after classes, and going to what seems like millions of pre-game and post-game meetings, was a challenge but was definitely an experience. Saturday’s game was against Hiram, the score was 70-20, and the year ended on a high note.

Halloween

To explain with one word: crazy. This weekend was great - costumes, parties, dancing, and plenty of people. This Saturday after the football team posted a win over Oberlin, everyone participated in the festivities on campus. If this was just another Halloween on campus, I could definately get used to celebrating it here.

HOMECOMING!!

Homecoming weekend is a time when alumni, current students and faculty unite to share the pride of a university. Here at Wittenberg University, the tradition is even stronger. As a freshman, this experience was remarkable for me. I was fortunate to meet alumni from classes before I was even born, and before my parents were born. Hearing stories of football legends like Ken Pope, who is an inspiration to any incoming freshman (becoming an All-American as a freshman recording eleven interceptions), are just a part of the historic weekend. Alumni and current students can only begin to explain to future prospects the “glow” over the entire campus as soon as you become apart of it. The most anticipated part of homecoming weekend, “The Game,” was as entertaining as anyone could have hoped for. Wittenberg won a close hard fought game against Ohio Wesleyan 21-16. After the game, began the celebrations which were fun for everyone - current students, alumni, and anyone else who stayed Saturday night.

Mid-Terms

It’s that time of the year, when every college student is laying in his or her room studying away for mid terms. I have been warned mid terms “can either make or break you”, “are gonna kill you”, oh yea and of course “this is fun” with a wide smile laughs my professor. I think I am ready but just in case better go finish studying.

Visiting Mom

This weekend while teammates were away impressing the nation with a 73-0 victory over Earlham, I was back home visiting my mother, in Toledo, Ohio for her birthday. HAPPY B-DAY MOM!!!!!! Other tigers were putting up 592 total yards while allowing only 170 yards. While football and school are top priority, family always comes first, so with the option to go home for away games I went home. Going to Toledo was fun spending time with family I had not visited in a little over a month. Shout outs to everyone in Toledo great seeing everyone, everyone in Columbus, teammates, classmates, and everyone I forgot see ya next time!

Wooster Game!

9/29/07

Opening up the NCAC Conference Wittenberg’s first opponent was The College of Wooster. Going into this game I expected to just be on the sideline like any other game, as I dont start, but due to 31 points scored in just the opening quarter second string players went in for the fourth quarter. Actually I just heard the coach ask for a corner and decided, hey I play corner lol. First play I go in, the quarterback fumbles the snap and has to scramble then throws it up. I’m in coverage looking at the ball in disbelief but run up to intercept the ball. In total shock I just keep running until tackled from behind. The NCAC opener shows how bright the Wittenberg future really is as numerous freshman had impressive numbers. Running Backs Corey Webber and Rod Belcher each had touchdowns as Belcher led the team in rushing yards for the game with 131. Demetrius Lindsay pulled in 111 recieving yards, numerous defensive players made big plays. Overall it was a great day to be a Tiger!

Going out with Friends

09/25/07

Springfield is not the largest city in the world, so a night on the town with friends just means everyone’s going to McMurrays. McMurrays is the best place to just go and dance and meet new people. Even those who can’t really dance can be seen in the corners in their own world. Most people go with groups of friends or just meet others there. On this night, I decided to go with a group of friends. Not only were there students from Wittenberg there but there were students from Urbana, which was not all bad as it was cool meeting other college students.
