Fall Break and Homecoming!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Erica @ 3:48 pm

dragon.jpgI’m kinda mad at myself right now.  It’s been a bit too long since I’ve updated my blog, and so much has been going on!  I guess I’ll start with Fall Break, which was…how can I put this…AMAZING.  The past three years I’ve headed back to Kentucky, but this year I flew to Atlanta to see my friend Sharon at Georgia Tech (shoutout to my Aunt Lori for hookin’ me up with some frequent flyer miles :))  Atlanta is banoodles!  The people there are just crazy and fun.  Sharon has some really cool friends, and we all went to the club.  It was a big change from Springfield, but tons of fun nonetheless.  Sharon’s brother Arnold also came to visit while I was there.  I hadn’t seen him in about four years; he’s 19 now, so I felt reeeeally old (and really short–he is like 6′4”) when I saw him.)

After Fall Break ended, it was right back to the craziness that is Wittenberg. The Wednesday we got back, CBS hosted our annual Unity March which went really well! It was great to see so many people from different organizations around campus coming together! It’s funny how school works sometimes because you can end up not being super busy in class, but having so much to do with extra curriculars. Every year for Homecoming, CBS hosts a breakfast and cookout for alums at the Black Culture House. After the football game (which WE WON…good job, Tigers) we had so much goooood food, and current students had a chance to network with alums. The only downfall to the cookout was that Dining Services brought us spinach instead of greens. :(  Seven Wonders of CBS

Homecoming was such a success, though, and I couldn’t have picked a better way to spend it than with those I adore. Gotta love Friends!)

Come on, Friday…Just Get HERE.

Crazy BehaviorAfter the craziness of last week, I was more than pumped for the weekend.  It was great to have a little time to breathe and hang out with some of my wonderful friendies (side note: I make up my own words sometimes; friendies means friends).  It’s funny, though, because Sundays are just as busy as any weekday.  I am one of two copy editors for The Wittenberg Torch, and we copy edit on Sundays from about 7:45-9 p.m.  Then it’s work from 9 p.m. - 1 a.m.  There’s always something going on, which gets to be a bit much sometimes, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.  I love my activities! :)

Even with the busy schedule, I look forward to Mondays because it’s a fresh start and I get to go to my internship.  One thing I love about Wittenberg is the vast amount of internship opportunities right here on campus.  Since last school year, I’ve interned with Wittenberg’s Office of University Communications.  I get to write for the university’s Web site and learn skills that will help me in the journalism field; what could be cooler than that!?  The University Communications office is one of my favorite places on campus.  The people there are so much fun!  I love that you can get work done, but still have a lot of fun in the process.  It’s the perfect work environment.

Okay…so by now you might be wondering why I’m so excited for Friday to just hurry up and get here.  I mean, I’m ALWAYS pumped for the weekend, but it is the beginning of Fall Break!  That means I have free time from Friday afternoon to Tuesday evening.  It’s little things like this that remind me of just how much I love college.  You don’t get a fall break in high school; you barely get Thanksgiving.  For the past three fall breaks I’ve gone back to the 859 (The BIG KY), but I’m changing it up a bit this year and going to ATL to visit my friends Sharon and Arnold!  I leave Friday at 3:40 and can barely contain my excitement!  It’s only for a few days, but I know it’ll be amazing.  I’ll be sure to keep you posted!

Simply Fabulous

So this past weekend was Family Weekend, and it was the first time in my four years here that my family has been able to come. :) CBS hosted its third annual Parents Banquet on the 29th, which was a huge success…and the food was the bomb.  It was fun making a fuss over my parents, and I’m pretty sure they loved it.

The last few days have been pretty crazy, though.  I keep breaking out in stress-induced hives, so that’s kind of AWESOME.  Okay, not really, but it’s been interesting.  I have to take steroids for a week and they make me super hungry.  So basically, my stress level will be lowered but I might gain 20 pounds in the process.  Maybe the stress came from my paper due Monday, my short story that was due Tuesday, and the big Bio test I had on Wednesday…can we say ridiculous?

I’ve never been sooooo happy to see Thursday!  The rest of this week should be rather relaxed, so I’m definitely looking forward to chillin and going out with my friends this weekend.  I need a little chaos in my life besides school! As much as I love becoming an adult, sometimes I wish I could go back to when times were simple…sorta like in the picture.  I could just pout when I was stressed!  Let’s cross our fingers that there aren’t anymore hives breakouts. :) This is what I do when I’m stressed…
