Well, let me start off by saying…WE WON ON SATURDAY!!! After some tense moments during overtime, Wittenberg beat Wooster by one point. I absolutely love going to all athletic events at Witt, but there’s just something about those Wittenberg/Wooster basketball games that gets me so pumped! It was great to see so many students come out and show so much school spirit. Hopefully everyone will be ready for the next Witt/Woo game on February 16th at Wooster. I’ve already got my red and white attire prepared.
Before the big game, I had to take my senior English comprehensives. That had to be the longest four hours of my life, but I’m so glad it’s over! I got my results back on Tuesday…I PASSED! I’m super excited to know there’s one less thing I’ll have to worry about this semester. Congratulations to all the senior English majors!!!!
After all the excitement over the weekend, I still had Monday to look forward to. It was Wittenberg’s annual MLK Convocation and Freedom March. It was sooooo cold that morning (and early–8 a.m.!), but we still had a great turnout for the march. Convocation was absolutely wonderful, too. I sing with Imani Gospel Choir; I don’t mean to toot our own horn or anything, but BEEP BEEP!Â

We did really well, and got the whole chapel rockin.Â

I had to introduce the guest speaker, Dr. Lani Guinier, but after getting over my nervous energy, I was fine. She was so nice and so intelligent, and I was happy we could have her on campus. I also had the opportunity to talk a bit with Wittenberg’s new dean, Sarah Kelly. I can tell she’s gonna be a lot of fun.
Basically…I couldn’t ask for a better week.

For about the next week, I’m going to be a mixture of nervousness and excitement. There’s just so much going on! Lemme give you the rundown:
Things I’m excited for: Poverty vs. Privilege debate on Wednesday; going to see the Second City Touring Co. on Thursday with Alicia, Lem, and Bennie (Bennie is on the left, and Lem is on the right; two of the funniest guys you’ll ever meet); going to the WITTENBERG/WOOSTER game on Saturday with my friendies; getting my senior exam for English outta the way on Saturday; MLK Convocation on Monday.
Things I’m nervous about: Taking my senior English exam on Saturday…since graduating kinda depends on it; the Wittenberg/Wooster game (if we don’t win, I’ll be so heated!); oh, and MLK Convocation is bound to be a bit scary because I have to introduce the speaker in front of a packed audience. I think my excitement supersedes my fear, so I’m sure everything will work out beautifully.

Let me back track for a second, though, because I had one heck of a weekend. It was the first weekend back after Winter Break, and I had lots of catching up to do with my friends. A group of us went out to dinner and a movie on Friday evening (if you haven’t seen First Sunday, you should definitely hit that up ASAP–so funny), and we danced the night away on Saturday. From Bennie’s loss of muscle control from laughing so hard (see picture below), to just all around silly behavior, it was
absolutely wonderful.
I’ll be sure to update on how this next week goes. Send a lil’ luck my way. Bye, loves!

Winter Break went by entirely too fast! It was relaxing and, before I knew it, I was right back at Wittenberg. But, I guess I can’t complain too much. Even though home was amazing, my heart is at Witt with all of my friends. You don’t realize how much you miss Witt until you’re gone. The holiday was wonderful. It was nice to kick back and relax with my family, but my favorite part had to be the food. It was kinda AWESOME.Â
It’s super scary to think about, but I graduate in about four months. FOUR MONTHS…as in May 10, 2008. That’s an idea I really can’t seem to fathom. Honestly, I still feel like I’m in my freshman year! I started the job hunt over break…yeah. That turned out to be a lot more stressful than I imagined. I’m not quite ready to do that whole “grown up” thing.Â
Well, it’s almost 12:40, which means I’ve gotta run to the HPER Center for my fitness class. Every time I think about myself in a fitness class, I laugh…really hard. Wish me luck!

Wow…it has been quite a while since I’ve updated my blog. The last month has been a blur with papers and assignments by the dozen! As I write this (it’s 7:57 a.m.), I’m officially DONE for the semester! All I have to do is turn in my creative writing portfolio and I’m through! Now that everything is finished for the semester, all I can really think about is going home on Monday to spend a couple glorious weeks with my family. My grandma and I are going to Virginia to spend about ten days with my Aunt Lori. It’s bound to be crazy and fabulous, so I can’t even wait! But at the moment…I’m really craving cini-minis from Burger King, so I think that’ll be a little treat for myself. :) I’ll update over winter break, so be sure to check back. Happy holidays, everyone!
Special shoutout to Bob Rafferty, the most awesome webmaster EVER.

It’s hard to believe that next Wednesday begins Thanksgiving break! I could’ve sworn that I just moved into my apartment the other day, but here we are nearing the end of the semester. Saturday was the final football game of my college career, and also marked exactly six months until I graduate. :( Maybe I should stop talking about it before I get too sappy. This week is sure to be hectic because CBS Exec. Board is traveling to Chicago on Friday for the National Black Student Union Conference. Everyone is really excited and, even though it’s only
until Sunday, it will be a great bonding and learning experience. The only downside is that we have to leave Friday at 6 a.m. The last time I was up at 6 a.m. was because I had to pull an all-nighter, so it was definitely not by choice.Â
So, back to Thanksgiving break…I’m really not sure if I can wait until next week. It’s going to be amazing. The three best cooks in the world (my grandma, mom, and aunt) will take over the kitchen and make every delicious thing you can think of. I’ve been a bit homesick lately, so I’m pretty sure my mom’s mashed potatoes will hit the spot.

Wow…I can’t believe I finally have time to sit down and update my blog! This is the first night in over a week where I’ve been able to sit down and have a little time to myself. School has been absolutely chaotic. Like most college students, I’m a big fan of paper extensions…but not when both professors move their extension dates to the same day. This happened in two of my English classes, with each prof. wanting a five-seven page paper. It doesn’t sound so bad, but when your brain is fried, it’s hard to generate great ideas. Luckily, I turned in the last paper at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday morning! It was such a huge weight off my shoulders, but now I must conquer the task of writing some poems for my creative writing course. However, writing a blog entry sounded so much more appealing…so here I sit!Â
As each day passes, I can’t believe how close graduation is getting; and even closer than graduation is the GRE and numerous due dates for grad. school applications. It’s amazing how you can rush the college experience along sometimes, but being in my senior year makes me wish I had more time to be with my friends and continue being a kid!Â
With that being said, the weekend should be BRILLIANT. Â
Me + my really awesome friends + lots of dancing = quite a spectacular time.

I’m kinda mad at myself right now. It’s been a bit too long since I’ve updated my blog, and so much has been going on! I guess I’ll start with Fall Break, which was…how can I put this…AMAZING. The past three years I’ve headed back to Kentucky, but this year I flew to Atlanta to see my friend Sharon at Georgia Tech (shoutout to my Aunt Lori for hookin’ me up with some frequent flyer miles :)) Atlanta is banoodles! The people there are just crazy and fun. Sharon has some really cool friends, and we all went to the club. It was a big change from Springfield, but tons of fun nonetheless. Sharon’s brother Arnold also came to visit while I was there. I hadn’t seen him in about four years; he’s 19 now, so I felt reeeeally old (and really short–he is like 6′4”) when I saw him.
After Fall Break ended, it was right back to the craziness that is Wittenberg. The Wednesday we got back, CBS hosted our annual Unity March which went really well! It was great to see so many people from different organizations around campus coming together! It’s funny how school works sometimes because you can end up not being super busy in class, but having so much to do with extra curriculars. Every year for Homecoming, CBS hosts a breakfast and cookout for alums at the Black Culture House. After the football game (which WE WON…good job, Tigers) we had so much goooood food, and current students had a chance to network with alums. The only downfall to the cookout was that Dining Services brought us spinach instead of greens. :(Â Â
Homecoming was such a success, though, and I couldn’t have picked a better way to spend it than with those I adore. Gotta love Friends!

After the craziness of last week, I was more than pumped for the weekend. It was great to have a little time to breathe and hang out with some of my wonderful friendies (side note: I make up my own words sometimes; friendies means friends). It’s funny, though, because Sundays are just as busy as any weekday. I am one of two copy editors for The Wittenberg Torch, and we copy edit on Sundays from about 7:45-9 p.m. Then it’s work from 9 p.m. - 1 a.m. There’s always something going on, which gets to be a bit much sometimes, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love my activities!Â
Even with the busy schedule, I look forward to Mondays because it’s a fresh start and I get to go to my internship. One thing I love about Wittenberg is the vast amount of internship opportunities right here on campus. Since last school year, I’ve interned with Wittenberg’s Office of University Communications. I get to write for the university’s Web site and learn skills that will help me in the journalism field; what could be cooler than that!? The University Communications office is one of my favorite places on campus. The people there are so much fun! I love that you can get work done, but still have a lot of fun in the process. It’s the perfect work environment.
Okay…so by now you might be wondering why I’m so excited for Friday to just hurry up and get here. I mean, I’m ALWAYS pumped for the weekend, but it is the beginning of Fall Break! That means I have free time from Friday afternoon to Tuesday evening. It’s little things like this that remind me of just how much I love college. You don’t get a fall break in high school; you barely get Thanksgiving. For the past three fall breaks I’ve gone back to the 859 (The BIG KY), but I’m changing it up a bit this year and going to ATL to visit my friends Sharon and Arnold! I leave Friday at 3:40 and can barely contain my excitement! It’s only for a few days, but I know it’ll be amazing. I’ll be sure to keep you posted!

So this past weekend was Family Weekend, and it was the first time in my four years here that my family has been able to come. :) CBS hosted its third annual Parents Banquet on the 29th, which was a huge success…and the food was the bomb. It was fun making a fuss over my parents, and I’m pretty sure they loved it.Â
The last few days have been pretty crazy, though. I keep breaking out in stress-induced hives, so that’s kind of AWESOME. Okay, not really, but it’s been interesting. I have to take steroids for a week and they make me super hungry. So basically, my stress level will be lowered but I might gain 20 pounds in the process. Maybe the stress came from my paper due Monday, my short story that was due Tuesday, and the big Bio test I had on Wednesday…can we say ridiculous?Â
I’ve never been sooooo happy to see Thursday! The rest of this week should be rather relaxed, so I’m definitely looking forward to chillin and going out with my friends this weekend. I need a little chaos in my life besides school! As much as I love becoming an adult, sometimes I wish I could go back to when times were simple…sorta like in the picture. I could just pout when I was stressed! Let’s cross our fingers that there aren’t anymore hives breakouts.

This week has been absolutely insane! There’s so much to do, yet so little time to get it all done. It’s a pretty challenging semester; I’m taking three writing intensive courses (it’s my senior year…I for sure thought things might cool down!) so that’s a lot of work. My creative writing course is pretty amazing. It’s something I’ve never really experimented with, but it has turned out to be one of the best courses I’ve taken at Witt! Times like these really make me wish I could immediately quit procrastinating, but it’s so hard! I have revisions for a paper due Tuesday (still not finished), a research paper due in a week (not yet started), and lots and LOTS of reading (yeah…still not started). If you’re reading this you’re probably like “Wow, stupid…why don’t you just do your work?” And ya know what? That’s a fabulous question! I really do try, but then my buddies will come along and make me hang out with them. It’s a tough life!
All of my homework is now assembled in class order on my bed, ready for me to tackle. It’s gonna be a long and fun night!!!
